2 Songs to be included in ‘Occupy Music Brooklyn, first installation’

October 18th, 2011

The time is still here, to stand up against Social and Economic inequality and corporate greed.. Old Solar and Green Coat Face have submitted a song each to ‘Occupy Music Brooklyn’ number one, the first in a series that will, hopefully, be a continued source of income for the movement. The project is being organized by Chris Butler, of Chris Butler Sound in Bushwick, Brooklyn and is a joint collaboration with the Occupied Wall Street Journal, due to be released by the end of 2012…

Music By Color “Cinder Orange” and “Gray Blue”

September 15th, 2010

Two new songs have been posted to the “Music By Color” play list. ” Cinder Orange song was written and tracked with acoustic guitar, through a combination of analog pedals and varying acoustic environments.  I wanted the composition to pay homage to early Blac Ocean, one of the first bands I feel very fortunate to have been part of. The name comes from a memories of being a teenager, sitting in our friends pitch black attic listening to a cassette tapes of Pablo Honey and the faint orange glow of an inhaled cigarette or the crack of a floorboard, as someone leaned back in their chair.  “Composition Gray Blue” is a musical assemblage, each piece composed on three separate occasions. The first guitar part was written for a short, several years back.  It never made the cut and, in turn, was filed away with all of the other bits and pieces of obscure song ideas I’ve had over the years. I was reminded of it while out on the fire escape one evening, listening to random play lists off of an old USB drive. I wrote and tracked a second part that same night.  The Rhodes part was added a few evenings later and the whole thing came glued together. The song is unedited, and totally imperfect. All of the parts were tracked in 1 take, including the portions I would have changed, if I hadn’t made a conscious effort to preserve the original performance. I hope you enjoy them.

In Memory of Reverend Victor Smith

September 8th, 2010

Reverend Victor Smith passed away on May 4th, 2010 at the age of 87.  He served his family, friends and church as a true example of faith and humility. We will miss him deeply.

Song For Reverend Victor Smith (lyrics)

He said, Do you seek your father’s God, Do you see rest in freedom, Do you walk the straight and narrow, Can you rest assured you give enough of your love, Will you rise even if you fall, Would you die if the people you cared for turned their backs and walked away, Make your way home, No fear of the day you close your eyes.
